THE ABBEY:
A DVD of ' The Abbey' as shown on ABC TV is now available by direct order from the Jamberoo Abbey. It makes a great Christmas present. There is also a CD of the sacred music soundtrack from the program. The Benedictine nuns were not paid for participating in the series, so this is a way for them to benefit financially. They are currently facing an expensive roof restoration and in dire need of funds.
Both the DVD and CD cost $34.95 each.

CATHOLIC PAPERS:
Catholic Papers are available at the doors of the church.
Kairos (fortnightly) $2.00 and Catholic Leader (weekly) $1.50.
'COMING HOME':
Mother Teresa began the Corpus Christi Community at Greenvale in 1974 as a home for previously homeless men. It has undergone many changes over the years. But it still remains a home for nearly 90 men. Jesuits have been involved at CCC from the beginning.
'Coming Home' is a short history of the Corpus Christi Community, once labelled by Archbishop Frank Little as ‘a jewel in the crown of the Archdiocese’.
Books are available at the Parish Office for $20 a copy.
COUNCIL OF CHRISTIANS
AND JEWS JOURNAL:
The annual journal of the Victorian Council of Christians and Jews is Gesher (meaning ‘Bridge”). It is an expression of the Council’s aim to develop understanding and reconciliation between Christians and Jews. The Hawthorn Parish has long been a strong supporter of the Council. Some copies of the latest Gesher are available at the entrance to the Church. You are welcome to take a copy.
DEANERY NEWS:
Archdiocesan parishes are gathered together in geographical clusters of about twelve, called deaneries, to promote closer co-operation between parishes. Our parish is part of the Boroondara Deanery. Our deanery now produces a newsletter with news of events across the parishes. Copies of the first newsletter are available at the back of the church.
THE HOSPITALITY OF GOD:
Copies of BRENDAN BYRNE'S book 'The Hospitality of God' are now available at The Parish Office for $25.
LIFTING THE BURDEN:
Copies of Brenday Byrne's new book, Lifting the Burden: Reading
Matthew's Gospel in the Church Today, are now available from the
Parish Office at the discounted price of $20.
PUBLICATIONS
AVAILABLE:
Jesuits Australia COMPANIONS magazine is available free at the Church doors.
A variety of other booklets is presented in the pamphlet rack in the front porch.
READING MATERIAL:
Parishioners are reminded of the Catholic reading materials available at the doors of both churches. Weekly, the Queensland Catholic Leader at a cost of $1.50, and fortnightly, the Victorian
Kairos, for $2.00.
Both of these publications offer excellent reading on Catholic news as well explanations on the Sunday readings.
'REASON AND RELIGION IN AN AGE OF
SCIENCE':
An important book on science and religion has been published by Fr Terry Kelly
SJ. This deals with the relationship between science and religion in layman terms. Terry is both a fine theologian and scientist. I strongly recommend this to anyone interested in these issues. Published by ATF Press PO Box 504 Hindmarsh SA 5007 or
