First Eucharist Program

First  Communion Information

Saturday 29th May 2021 at 2pm

Dear Families,

Your child will receive the Sacrament of Communion this year and it is important that you are involved in the preparation program to enable you to share in this special time with your child.

We invite you to join us at the following occasion to be part of the preparation for this special experience in your child’s faith development.

The dates that follow are COVID restriction dependent. Any ceremonies in the church have very strict attendance limits. We will contact you with any changes.

Class Dates & Times:

There will be 3 classes for the children – on Mondays 3rd, 10th, 17th May, from 4pm- 5.15pm. Classes will be in the Parish Centre, 345 Burwood Road (off Lynch St, next to Billy Lids).  Children will need to bring their pencil cases.

Rehearsal for the sacrament will be on Monday, 24th May at 4pm – 5.30pm in the church.

Behaviour at Classes

We ask that you speak with your child about their behaviour while at the classes. We are aware that the children are here straight after a long day at school and we prepare our class content with this in mind. If your child finds it difficult to be respectful to the teachers or their fellow students we feel that they may not have the maturity to receive the sacrament at this time, and we may recommend that they wait until next year.

Children will bring home ‘communion worksheets’. These will be used to complete homework activities that support the sacramental classes. There will also be opportunities for them to share a short prayer and/or reflection with their families over the course of the preparation. This could be done together before a meal or at bedtime. We see this sharing as an important part of their faith development. We would appreciate your support and encouragement of your child by being involved at home with this aspect of the program.

Presentation Mass
All children preparing for the Sacrament are asked to attend Mass with their families where we will present the children to the Parish and ask the parishioners to remember them in their prayers. Attendance at this Mass is an important part of the sacramental program.
Due to restricted numbers allowed at Masses we may need to split the group into  two Mass times, one on Saturday, 22nd May at 6pm and Sunday, 23rd May at 5pm. I will be in touch closer to the date to discuss which Mass you would prefer to attend.

Cost

To cover costs, we ask that each family contribute $160.00 per child.  This fee covers the cost of the classes & materials, certificates, prayer books etc.

This fee is payable on registration via Trybooking - see link below

Baptismal Certificate

If not previously given, a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate will need to be sighted by myself (and a copy taken) before classes commence.   N.B. I won’t need a baptismal certificate if your child was baptised at the Hawthorn Parish but please indicate this on the form

The Hawthorn Parish promotes the safety and well-being of children.
